“Not My Type": One Woman Vs. The President

One of my most surreal styling experiences is being mentioned in E. Jean Carroll’s memoir, “Not My Type,” in the chapter devoted to the truth that no one is “anyone” until someone preps them. Though I only had 72 hours to present her team with multiple different courtroom looks, and I only met with E Jean once, I was flattered to read my role went far beyond selecting outfits—I became a steady presence, offering style and emotional support to help her project strength and authenticity under unimaginable pressure. Carroll captures this collaboration with her trademark wit, describing not only my “woodland sylph” style and calm presence but also the trust and confidence built through that brief and intense moment .

Being featured in her story made me reflect on what it means to stand behind the scenes, empowering others to confidently step into the spotlight. For me, prepping clients is never just about clothing; it’s about giving them the courage to show up fully and authentically. That chapter in Carroll’s book is a testament to the quiet power of support and the transformative impact of helping others embrace their own strength.
